Meta has acquired Conductor, a young AI coding company that lets developers assign multiple software agents to separate workspaces and run them in parallel. The transaction gives Meta another piece of technology as it expands its push into AI products and recruits talent for its Superintelligence Labs.
Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the deal in a blog post on Wednesday. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but did not disclose the financial terms or provide further details. Axios first reported the transaction.
Holtz said Conductor would continue operating its core features as before until early next year. The company’s cloud service will close on November 20, after which Conductor plans to begin deleting user data stored in the cloud. That shutdown is the clearest immediate operational consequence for customers using the startup’s hosted offering.
“I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta,” Holtz wrote.
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its main product last summer. Its system is designed to help engineers divide work across compartmentalized parts of a software project, with agent teams running in the cloud, on a local device or through a user’s phone. The agents are not built by Conductor itself; the platform uses models from major AI companies including Anthropic and OpenAI.
Meta adds another AI coding asset
Holtz also said he expected to work with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs. On X, he described the group as having “the highest talent density of all the labs,” while suggesting that Conductor customers would receive “something new” by early next year.
The acquisition fits into Meta’s broader effort to close a gap in AI services after the company had previously lagged behind some competitors. Meta launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, in August. The company has also said its recently introduced Muse agents have passed 10 million users, although the announcement about Conductor did not provide further details about how the startup’s technology will be integrated.
- Deal status: Meta confirmed the acquisition, but the price and other terms were not disclosed.
- Customer impact: Conductor’s core features are expected to continue working until early next year.
- Cloud shutdown: The hosted service will end on November 20, followed by deletion of user cloud data.
Conductor is also part of a wider series of AI-related acquisitions by Meta over the past year, including Moltbook, an agent platform that attracted public attention. The company’s purchase of Conductor adds a product focused on coordinating AI systems for software development, while leaving the startup’s immediate customer transition centered on the closure of its cloud service.
