In March 2020, in the wake of the health crisis, Algeria decided to close its borders and thereby block around 25,000 nationals abroad.

After long months of silence and uncertainty during which the forced exiles expressed their discontent, the Algerian government finally launched a repatriation program last December. This should last until January 31st.

The Algerian national airline Air Algérie suspended the return program for Algerian nationals on January 10th. In France, only the daily one-way connection from Paris-Orly airport to Algiers will be maintained. 'The other flight connections with other French metropolises will be discontinued until further notice,' said the newspaper Algerian Part.

The Algerian Consulate General in Lyon kept passengers informed through a press release released this Saturday. However, details of the reasons for this judgment are not available. 'They dont tell us the reasons, they just give us orders,' an Air Algeria manager told Jeune Afrique.
